The High School Counseling Office's purpose is helping students with their academic achievement throughout the 4 year process. We strive to offer guidance programs for helping students plan and prepare for postsecondary schooling and helping students with personal growth and development, in addition to offering guidance programs for helping students plan and prepare for their work roles after high school.
FINANCIAL AID: January 1st the Free Aplication for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. All seniors planning to attend a four-year college or univeristy, community college or trade/tech school next fall should submit a FAFSA. The FAFSA determines a student's eligibility for federal and state financial aid. A pin for both student and parent is required and can be obtained in advance at www.pin.ed.gov Deadline to file is March 2nd.
Many private universities require a CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA. The Profile is used to determine nonfederal financial aid qualification and can be completed online at www.collegeboard.com. Check with the colleges your student is applying to.
In most cases, undocumented students do not qualify for public in-state or federal financial aid. However, they are eligable for private scholarships not requiring U.S. Citizenship or legal residency. Scholarship information is available at www.maldef.org and at college financial aid offices.
AB 540 allows for undocumented students, who meet eligibility criteria, to pay in-state tuition at California public colleges and universities.
