History/Social Science

The Social Science department places particular emphasis on the exploration of culture, history, geography, economics, government and human thought, which creates a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the world and sensitivity to its people.

In the process of educating, it is the goal of the Social Science department to also develop the fundamental skills of reading, writing and critical thinking.

The following information is for the 2009-2010 school year:

Department Goal:
It is our goal, during the 2009-2010 school year, for every social science teacher to focus on the California teaching standards for world history, U.S. history, U.S. government and economics and prepare our students for the CST's, their next social science class, and college.

Smart Goals:

SMART Goals World History –
- On the 2009 STAR Exam, we will decrease by 5% the amount of students scoring below and far below basic from 28.24% to 23.24%.
- On the 2009 STAR Exam, we will increase by 3% the amount of students scoring proficient and above, from 42.85% to 45.85%.
SMART Goals United States History –
- On the 2009 STAR Exam, we will decrease by 4% the amount of students scoring below and far below basic.
- On the 2009 STAR Exam, we will increase by 5% the amount of students scoring proficient and above, from 37.07% to 42.07%.
